Our Labels - Why each illustration was chosen

All insects, animals and plants depicted on our labels are found in our vineyards and vital for the ecosystems within them.
Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot:
Heron - these birds provide a critical gage of the water quality we all depend on - they also play a key role in the aquatic ecosystem.
The background drawing represents the molecular structure of natural sugar found in wine.
Chardonnay:
Dragonfly – These insects are a bioindicator of water, meaning they only survive and thrive to adulthood if they have good clean and healthy water free from toxins.
They play a significant role in controlling and maintaining the ecosystems they live. They control insect population, especially pests such as mosquitoes and agricultural pests

Pinot Noir:
Zebra Finch – A native bird found in all our vineyards that plays an important role in plant reproduction through their pollination or seed dispersion.

Rosé:
Butterfly - Butterflies are very important pollinators. One third of all plants need pollination to set fruit, including grapes and bees and butterflies are major pollinators.

Shiraz:
Bee – Bees are so important in the vineyard as they pollinate plants and vines! In doing this they carry pollen between plants to fertilise them.

Shiraz Malbec:
Arundo Donax - Planted at Temple Bruer in 2013 to make Biochar for use in our vineyards. Biochar is charcoal that is made by burning Arundo in a limited oxygen environment, and then it is added back to the vineyard.
This is done because as plants decay, they release greenhouse gases, but by ‘fixing the carbon’ by charring it into biochar the carbon is not released into the atmosphere and then used to help grow more plants or vines! It is put back into the vineyard which will sequester carbon as well as improving soil structure, moisture retention and nutrient availability
